More than 1,400 communication professionals from around the world gathered in Toronto last month for the IABC 2010 World Conference. Unfortunately, I wasn’t one of them.
For one thing, I was pretty busy prospecting for new clients as an independent consultant. For another, I wasn’t convinced the value to be gained from conference would justify the plane ticket or time away from my family. However, having just scanned the World Conference blog posts on InSession, I can now see how much I missed, including sessions that explored:
- Why internal communications teams should act more like agencies … and how to pull that off
- What companies stand to gain when employees are allowed to access social media at work
- How effective internal communications helped drive SAS to the top of Fortune Magazine’s “Best Companies to Work For” list
Clearly, professional development needs to move higher on my priority list. Hopefully next year I’ll be in a better position to make the investment. How about you? If you didn’t attend conference, what kept you away? If you did attend, would you say you got your money’s worth?
