We are still getting good feedback from an interactive networking and professional development opportunity held on Oct. 27 in downtown Chicago. Designed for IABC/Chicago members with 10 years or less in the communications profession, the group discussed how a new communication business is rapidly emerging, representing the first fundamental shift in the profession’s history. In short, it’s focused on delivering outcomes that matter most to the organization. That’s good news for customers, business leaders and the communication practitioners who lead it. Customers get more quality, service and value. Business leaders meet their goals. Communication pros get more challenge, more opportunities to make a difference, more fun and more money.
In this session, Jim Shaffer, IABC Fellow, author, consultant and speaker, discussed three drivers of this shift. And, he used recent stories about young clients who have successfully made the shift. After absorbing that great information, Jim opened the conversation. Members shared issues and how they could apply the three drivers to their work situations.
The Young Professionals Group is looking into meeting again later this year. We’ll let you know when the next meeting is set.
