In this episode, IABC Social Responsibility Committee chair, Michelle Bernhart, talks to Cafe2Go host Neville Hobson, ABC, about ISO 26000, the international standard from the International Standards Organization (ISO) giving guidance on social responsibility.
It is intended for use by organizations of all types, in both public and private sectors, in developed and developing countries, as well as in economies in transition. It will assist them in their efforts to operate in the socially responsible manner that society increasingly demands.
Michelle was part of the team that worked with ISO on developing standards for social responsibility. She outlines what makes this standard different from existing ones that address social responsibility and talks about what the response has been in the three months since the standard was published.
Finally, Michelle offers some guidance on why it is important for IABC members to be aware of ISO 26000.
Michelle has 25 years of experience leading change management and strategic communications and engagement programs for industrial, media, and employee audiences, and has been responsible for sustainability performance improvement, communications, and reporting programs. She leads True Blue Communications LLC, which helps companies in North America and Europe strengthen sustainability performance, achieve strategic objectives, enhance brand, and manage risk through credible and engaging communications.
