The IABC/Chicago board of directors is proud to present the Karen Utterback Volunteer Award. This annual award, which began in 2011, recognizes a seasoned professional who donates his/her time and talent to further the professional communications practice. The IABC/Chicago executive committee honors one outstanding individual at our Bronze Quill Awards dinner each year. Selection criteria include:
- dedication to strategic communications excellence
- assistance to the organization and its members, and
- years of volunteer service
The award is named to honor the memory of IABC/Chicago member Karen Utterback, who died unexpectedly of natural causes in 2009 as she was about to begin her second term as IABC/Chicago Chapter president. Karen’s energy and passion for IABC/Chicago contributed greatly to the chapter’s success during her service on the board of directors, and she is fondly remembered.
