The Value of IABC/Chicago Membership

Value Proposition
What do YOU value about IABC/Chicago membership?

In recent months, we’ve introduced some “value-added” offers for IABC/Chicago members. Examples include the April 21 “After Work Professional Development Forum” hosted by Gerri Nowoczynski of Kraft Foods and a complimentary webinar registration for the April “Global Communications” presentation by Jeff Zwier of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited.

We now are announcing special IABC/Chicago-only pricing for the June 29 “Write & Rewrite LIVE!” workshop by Steve Crescenzo and Jim Ylisela. Cindy Crescenzo is even offering IABC/Chicago members the opportunity to earn deep discounts on registrations by forming a group registration with other IABC/Chicago members.

This is a great way for independent communication professionals and people who are the sole communicator at their company to enjoy a group discount. Simply reach out to other IABC/Chicago members who plan to attend the workshop and form a group of three, five or ten people for progressively greater discounts!

Your chapter leaders have decided to add to the value of this event with two separate drawings to award two complimentary registrations to the Write & Rewrite LIVE! workshop and Chicago Cubs baseball game that evening! Here are the details of the drawing.

These member-only benefits are just part of the real value that you get as an IABC/Chicago member.

As we approach the end of the 2010-2011 IABC/Chicago board year, I want to thank you for your involvement and support of IABC/Chicago. I also want you to consider how you might enhance your professional career in the coming year, and make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Below is the “value proposition” that IABC/Chicago board members developed after much study and discussion. See which of the following mean the most to you. Then make a decision to work with us in the next few months to either improve some area of it, or to help others to benefit from your experience and skillset.

As my grandfather used to say, “A saw sitting unused in the barn isn’t useful to anyone, and it soon grows rusty.” Ok, my grandfather never really said that, but I’m saying it now. Don’t let your energy, passion and knowledge become dormant. We need you!

IABC/Chicago Elevator Speech/Value Proposition

IABC/Chicago members gain access to a diverse network of 15,000 communication professionals in more than 80 countries, for unmatched networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities – at events and online. Hundreds of those professionals are located within the Chicago metropolitan area, and are potential clients, colleagues, friends, and/or a job connection.

Top Three Value Propositions for IABC/Chicago

  1. Networking (clients, colleagues and friends, jobs)
  2. Content (knowledge-sharing among members, research, case studies, best practices, templates)
  3. Diversity, with an International Flavor (IABC/Chicago is comprised of communicators in a wide range of disciplines, career stages and backgrounds. It is part of IABC, which has more than 15,000 members in more than 80 countries.)

We have several wonderful events planned for May and June, and I urge you to take advantage of the opportunities to network with fellow communication professionals and to participate in professional development opportunities.

Find more “value” in your IABC/Chicago membership by getting more involved. Contact me at president@iabcchicago.com if you have questions or want ideas on how to get (re)started.

Best Regards,

Tom Keefe
