July proved to be a very interesting month at IABC. We have a new Executive Director, Chris Sorek, and our new IABC Chair, Kirby Meyers, began his term. Our own IABC/Chicago board transitioned as well. We’re extremely happy to welcome new board members, Lisa Thomas, Robert Arredondo, Anne Divita Kopacz and Julia Dunlop. Each of them brings a unique skill to the table and we’re sure to learn from their experiences.
On the conference front, our Pacific Plains Region (at the time of this writing) does not plan to host a regional conference. The Heritage Region, our neighbor to the east, has graciously invited all PPR members to attend their annual conference, to be held October 14-16 in Pittsburgh, PA. I’ll be attending not only because it presents a great opportunity to learn and network from some great people, but you’ll also get to visit my old stomping ground! It’s sure to be a great experience, so be sure to take advantage of the early bird pricing.
Looking at our own chapter, the board brainstormed new ideas and rehashed some old ones during our annual strategy meeting in efforts to determine what would work best for our current and potential members. Let me say, we have an exciting year ahead! I can’t share everything with you just yet, but here are a few highlights:
- A wide array of programming. We’ll increase the number of webinars to accommodate the time constraints of today’s workplace. We plan to host more social activities, and increase our young professional’s involvement.
- Streamlining information delivery. We don’t want to cram your inbox.
- Increase in recognition. We’re increasing our members and volunteer appreciation, because we can’t do any of this without you.
- Member survey. Our last survey was over two years ago and it’s time that we hear what you would like out of your membership, and tell us how the board can serve you better.
And, if you’re interested in enhancing your leadership skills, the board is still seeking a Marketing Director and Finance Director. If you’re interested, please send me an email (president@iabcchicago.com) and we can discuss what’s involved. We’d love to have you on board!
It seems that kids are already heading back to school, summer’s drawing to a close and our jobs are busier than ever. I hope that IABC can provide you the tools you need to succeed. Let’s grow together!
Sincerely,
