About the presenters:
Maryellen Thielen, ABC is a public/investor relations executive with expertise in positioning an organization to increase its visibility, support branding strategies and attract capital in the equity markets. Her Allstate responsibilities include the annual report and annual meeting, working with IR and other departments on quarterly earnings announcements, media relations, issues management, crisis planning and senior management positioning. Thielen has received numerous awards for investor relations, communications management, annual reports and other publications. She has a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago and an MBA from Northern Illinois University. She currently is VP-communications for the Chicago chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) and has held a similar role on the IABC/Chicago board.
Lisa Ciota is responsible for creating, developing and executing SunCoke’s investor relations program, including presentations and meetings with institutional investors. SunCoke is the largest independent producer of metallurgical coke for use in the steel industry in the Americas. Ciota joined SunCoke in 2011 as the company prepared for its initial public offering and eventual spin-off from Sunoco, Inc. Earlier in her career, Ciota held a variety of investor relations roles at McDonald’s Corporation, including director of IR. Ciota holds an MBA from Northern Illinois University and a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Illinois. She currently is the chairman of the Chicago chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI).
Megan Pavich, Allstate senior attorney, Law & Regulation, on communications, corporate governance and other issues related to the annual meeting of stockholders.
Megan Pavich joined Allstate in 2004. As a senior attorney in the insurance operations law group, she is the team lead for legal work supporting marketing and corporate relations. From 2009 to 2013, she was responsible for counseling on corporate governance, drafting of the proxy statement, and managing legal aspects of the annual stockholders meeting for The Allstate Corporation. In this role, she was recognized by Corporate Secretary Magazine as a “Rising Star” and a member of Corporate Governance Team of the Year (Large Cap) for 2012. The National Law Journal also named her to Chicago’s 40 Under 40 list in 2013. Pavich received her J.D. from Loyola University School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from Miami University of Ohio. She is a member of the Society of Corporate Secretaries & Governance Professionals.
