President’s post: We’ve Heard You

Gabrielle Loring

For a few years, IABC’s tagline has been Be Heard. IABC/Chicago’s 2014-2015 board wants you to know: we’ve heard you. And we want to continue to hear from you.

In late July the board met to plan for the July 2014-June 2015 board year. We have a nice mix of seasoned board members and new blood covering a diverse range of communication specialties and experience level. This diversity will help us better serve you, our members, who have a similar diversity of communications experience.

Throughout the strategy-setting session, we kept in mind what our members have said when we conducted our last membership survey, evaluations from our various events and the comments you’ve shared in passing. Our annual plan revolves around your feedback and four core goals:

  1. Grow membership
  2. Expand locations and times
  3. Grow sponsorship
  4. Add value

Something for Everyone

What does all of this mean? I’m so excited about the variety of programming and events we’ve got planned for you:

  • Breakfast events: our Coffee with Communicators series
  • Luncheons downtown
  • Evening networking events as well as evening programs
  • Panel discussions
  • Case studies
  • Events tailored to those with less than 10 years’ experience ― Young Professionals events
  • Senior Communicator Forums for those with more than 10 years’ experience
  • Events at companies and at restaurants

And to make your membership more worth-while, you’ll find better member discounts for events.

Later this year, we’ll conduct another Member Survey, so please provide your feedback when you receive it. We want to continue hearing you!

Want to Get More from Your Membership?
Volunteering is a great way to get more from your membership. We have lots of ways to get involved from one-time activities to committee work to serving on the board. Ready to volunteer? Contact Anne Divita Kopacz and Jacqueline Baron at volunteer@iabcchicago.com with both your email and phone number.

I look forward to serving as your president and hope to see you at our upcoming events.

Regards,

Gabrielle Loring
2014-15 President
